Some People Forget...:Some People
Forget...
"Holy cow a full moon! Something bad is going to happen!" I hollered superstitiously as the round dark yellow moon started to rise above the small mountains at Kuik. Gerilyn, Norma, Tassie and Garrett didn't pay much attention to my words because they were too busy trying to catch fish. About half an hour and no fish later we decided to go home because we'd been riding around in Kuik looking for fish for a couple of hours. So we all piled into the boat, Garrett started the engine and we were off. As we left Kuik it was about 11:30 p.m. and I couldn't wait to get out of the chilly mosquito-filled night. But after riding in the boat for about ten minutes, all of a sudden we unexpectedly started slowing down. Then we came to a full stop. It wasn't long before we all knew we were out of gas. We thought there was no need to worry, though, because Garrett had another tank of gas in his boat. He only had to hook it up and away we'd go again. "Ah darn I forgot oil," Garrett calmly said with a crazy smile on his face. At first we all thought he was lying but after five minutes of debating with the only person who knew the truth, Gerilyn, Tass, and I started hollering at Garrett for being so absentminded. Now we'd have to paddle home! When we all calmed down we started looking for something to paddle with. But bad luck, there were no paddles in Garrett's boat! All .we could find to paddle with was a rugged old broom. With the broom we paddled to land to look around for oil. When we Couldn't find any, Norma, Gerilyn, Tassie and I grabbed some sticks to use as oars. We drifted down the river for about five minutes, then Garrett decided to stop at someone's camp to see if they had any oil. He looked for about ten minutes and came hopping happily back to the boat. Then we all joyously pushed off from land and left for Marshall. And being as honest as Garrett is, he paid back the person whom he borrowed oil from at their camp. By Charlotte Alstrom
