Picking Berries

In August, Ruth, Daisy, Olga, Vivian and I went blueberry picking to Willow. We went in Tommy Soolook's very slow, little boat. The first time we went up on the tundra Daisy and Ruth saw a black bear. Then got scared so they went down to the boat, and we moved to another patch of tundra. Then while we were picking berries there Ruth saw another bear. She called us over to look at the bear, and when we saw it was a brown bear, I told her to wait there while I sat down on the tundra and said my prayers and asked God to watch over us. I tried not to get scared, and after I said a prayer we started walking down to the boat very slowly. There were really two brown bears and one was eating berries. The other one came out of the trees and then went back in again. When we got down to the boat we hurried and pushed it out in the water then started for home. The next day we went picking at the same place, and we didn't even see the bears there? I wasn't scared then because we had men with us.
