Mary K's Summer In Lower Kalskag:Mary K's Summer In Lower Kalskag
Mary K didn't cut fish this summer because she mostly stayed home. But she went to Lower Kalskag to visit her daughter, Sandra, and grandchildren for one week. While she was there she babysat her grandchildren while Sandra went out berry picking. She also went up to Upper Kalskag where the people were building A.V.C.P. houses right on their old berry picking area. They got the rocks for the platforms from the top of the nearby mountain. She said that long ago when there was no road to Upper Kalskag they used to walk up there, and while they were walking they would pick berries. They would also climb the mountain side and pick black and red berries there. Now that there is a road up the mountain they could use transportation to go pick berries. This year, though, when she went to pick berries she only picked one gallon of blue berries. She also looked for red and black berries but there were none. The most fun she had while she was over in Lower Kalskag was visiting with her grandchildren. By: Mary K. Evan | |
