Lost on the Way to St. Michael

On May 25, Larry, Annie and her brother, Carl, headed down to St. Michael by boat to fish for herring. They were going to salt the herring. But on the way down they got lost because the original channel they were going to follow was too shallow to go through. Instead they tried going through Reindeer Slough. But they finally had to turn back because they got lost. On their way out they saw two boats passing by. The second boat they stopped and followed out. There were two women, a man and their grandchild onboard. After they got to Stebbins they proceeded to St. Michael even though there were 5-6 foot swells on the ocean. They stayed two nights in St. Michael, and the rest of the time they spent in campsites.

During their trip they saw beluga whales, moose, seals, and a whole lot of

cranes. "It was a fun and exciting trip," she said, "but next time before we go we'll make sure we bring someone who knows the way!"
