A Few Days At Ohog:A Few Days At
Ohog
Over the summer I did a lot of traveling, meeting new friends, helping out at home, and I also played basketball with my friends and some other people. The places that I traveled to over the summer were to Pilot Station, St. Mary's, and Mtn. Village. While I was home, some friends and I went to Ohog. We were there for only a few days. There were also other people who went to Ohog from Pitka's Point, Pilot, and Russian Mission. Before we left for Ohog, though we had to get permission slips from Nick Isaac or Tom Andrew. After that we had to pack up some of our stuff, and also bring a life jacket and rain gear. After getting ready to go, we all met down below Alexander Isaac's place. While we were waiting on some other people, we were all deciding on who we'd go with up to Ohog. Those who were driving boats and bringing up people were Nick Isaac, Tom Andrew, Alvin Owletuck Jr., Nick Boots, and my brother Victor. The first day we got there we got all of our stuff organized and waited until everyone had settled in. When the tents were put up everyone put their stuff inside. As we were waiting, Tatiana, Kimberly, Jackie, Joel, David, Everett and I went walking up towards a pile of rocks. While we were sitting there we talked and listened to music. Other kids were climbing on the side of the hill. After that we were told to go back to the campsite where we had a little talk with one of the adults. Then we had a short prayer service. When we were done we all had free time for half an hour or so. During that time some of us Marshall people decided to play a game called TEN. As we were playing, a lot of kids came to watch us. Then later on some of those kids wanted to play too, so we made a bigger circle to let them in. When it was time to eat a little snack we went to the main building. After eating we all had to go to a church service. Then we got ready for bed. The next day was a little bit different. We had to get up before 8:00 a.m. to go to church service. And then we had breakfast. Afterwards we got separated into groups where we talked about things that some of us didn't know before. During our breaks some of us Marshall teenagers took a short walk. Then we played TEN again. Later on we had a church service. And then it was time to go bed. Before going to bed, we had a little snack. The next day the adults decided to head back home because the weather was bad. As we were waiting to go home, one of the young adults made a fire to dry out some of the kids' stuff. While waiting for the things to dry we saw a couple of barges pass by. One of them had a green looking flower on its side. The reason why they wanted to go home early was because it was raining and they didn't want the younger kids to get sick. But just as we were about to leave, the weather started to get better. It was clearing up and the sun was starting to come out and that made some of us want to stay. But we couldn't stay. When our stuff dried out we got ready to go back home. Before we left, Tom, Nick Isaac, and some other guys shot their guns. On our way back it was a little scary because of the waves we had to go through with such a big load. Not long after we got home, some of the kids said they missed being at Ohog and that they wanted to go back up. One thing that I didn't like about being at Ohog was the weather. It rained on and off from the day we got there until the day we left. One thing I liked about being in camp was learning so many new things I didn't know before. By: Mary Jane Shorty
