MY EXCITING BOAT RIDES

My summer was OK, but one thing that I didn't like was when I had to go with my family and Anna Shorty and Fred Fitka up to Kwik by boat. We went up to picnic and to go rodding and reeling.

I didn't want to go at first because there were too many gnats and mosquitoes, but once I got there I liked the fresh air, seeing a bear or two, seeing baby hawks, and also catching a big pike. When I first caught that pike I was having a hard time reeling in my hook, so my dad came to help me reel it in and help me take it off the hook. After catching the big pike I wanted to rod some more, but I couldn't because my brother wanted his rod, so I gave back his rod and just sat around. Once in a while I'd talk to my dad because he and I were the only ones without rods. Not too long afterward my dad wanted to rod over on the other side of the slough. While we were rodding, my parents and Anna and Fred went to check for berries on the tundra. When they got back we went back to the same place to rod for a while. Then when it started to get late we headed for home. On our way back we saw another black bear on the beach but in a different place. This one was Iieing down right next to the water.

After we got home, I wanted to go out for another boat ride, so I asked my brother if we could go for another boat ride. When we were ready, we picked up Mathew, Joe-Joe and Tatiana. On our way up to Willow Mathew, Joe-Joe and my brother, Victor, were targeting at birds. While riding in Willow we saw Roy Fitka, Gail and her kids, Lena, Gerilyn and Boopsie, and also Freida. When we went over to them a couple of them needed cigarets, so Tatiana gave them what they needed. Then we took off.

After we left them we saw a beaver, and Joe-Joe, Mathew and my brother started to shoot at it. When we went over to see if it was dead we found it still alive. When it started croaking, my brother took our paddle and started clubbing it. Then he grabbed it by the tail and put it into our boat. After putting it in our boat we headed back to Roy's boat. On the way, the beaver kept moving around and Tatiana and I were getting scared and grossing out because it's nose had been shot off. When we got to Roy and the others Joe-Joe lifted up the beaver to show it to them. But when Freida looked at it she got scared and began to cry. Then we threw it on the bank and headed back home. On our way Mathew, Joe-Joe and my brother targeted birds again just to waste some of their shells.

After we got home, I told my mom what we saw on our boat ride. When she asked, "What did you guys do with that beaver?" I told her that we left it on the side of the bank. Then she told me that we should have brought it home so we could eat it. She was right. We wasted what could have been good food.
