Aniak Fair was Great!

The Interior River State Fair was held at Aniak on the 18th and 19th of August. People from Bethel, Anchorage, Kalskag, Chuathbaluk and, of course, Marshall, went to the Fair. Many of them had come to see the Anchorage live band play at the community hall on both Friday and Saturday nights. People who hadn't bought tickets beforehand had to pay ten dollars to get in at the door.

I went over with my family and really enjoyed it. I saw a lot of my friends from Aniak and Kalskag there. My aunt Francine from Anchorage even went for one night. She is also a hair stylist. While she was there most of the women from Aniak called her up to get their hair done. She also trimmed my hair for free which was nice of her.

On Friday night I went over to the community hall with my aunts and when I jumped out of the car I wasn't really sure if I wanted to go in. There were a lot of people milling around outside, talking and laughing. I had fun talking with my friend Marilyn Peterson and her brother Vernon. But Vernon was pretty quiet. The Anchorage band was pretty good, and I even danced a couple of times. I also had fun there with my friend Kim Dein from Spokane. We hung around together most of the time.

On Saturday night a bunch of Kalskag teenagers came to the dance, and I saw my cousins Harlan and Sonny. Then I met the two Savage brothers, Joseph and Yago. Later Danny Ausdahl from Kalskag came over to Aniak to pick up Kim's mom, and he was excited about the dance.

The Anchorage band played music from the 80's which was cool. The people enjoyed it and danced to their heart's content.

I have never had so much fun in my life. I hope that someday more people from all over go to Aniak for their Annual State Fair.
