Camping At Ohogamiut (Ohog):Camping At Ohogamiut
(Ohog)
On July 25, I went with a whole bunch of people up to Ohog. We left around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Sophie Ann, Joseph Isaac, Everett, David, Babes (Willie Dung Jr.) Barbra Andrew and I were in the same boat and racing to see if we would take first place! But on our way over Nick Andrew Sr. stopped at his fish camp to pick up something. Some of those girls in his boat jumped out and Kimberly Fitka took a couple of steps and sank in the mud. About 10 minutes later we took off for Ohog again. When we got there Mr. and Mrs. Isaac were sitting on the grass enjoying the sun. Our first day there was pretty boring so we listened to music and started a new dance step. Most of us girls wanted to swim, but Father Stan said tomorrow. So we ate, then explored around the camp. We went to bed around 11 or 12 that night, telling stories to each other. The next day, Sunday, we got up at around 7 or 8 in the morning to pray and have catechism lessons till around 5 or 6 P.M. That evening we could do whatever we wanted to do, so we gathered around Tom Andrew to see if we could swim or not. He gave some of us permission and we went swimming in the warm water. Afterwards we ate dinner and talked about drug and alcohol abuse. On the second and third day in the evening we played games while it was pouring rain outside. Four volunteers, Sophie Finn, Tatiana, Popeye, and Kimberlg raised their hands . We chose Sophie Ann first and put her on a board, then slowly lowered her to the floor. On the last day we had a big bonfire right along the bank. We listened to music until the batteries died. The next morning we woke up around 7:00 AM. and got all our stuff ready and took off around 10:30 for Marshall. It was a great camp out!!!! By Lois Moore
