"It was about 20 years ago in the winter during moose hunting season. Alvin Owletuck Sr., Larry Hunter and I had been hunting all day back there behind Pilcher Mountain. Larry was the only one who had brought along a thermos of hot coffee. It started getting dark and foggy so we decided to head for home. But on the way home we got lost on the hill. I felt sorry that I didn't bring a can to melt snow in so we could have a warm drink. We tried heating up the thermos bottle but it couldn't heat up enough to melt the snow. So we had to go thirsty. Finally on the third day out we managed to get to Kuyukutuk where we ran out of gas. After waiting a while we noticed where we were and started walking to Five Day Slough. When we reached Nunvarliq we heard snow machines and they turned out to be the search and rescue team. All those three days we were out it was foggy and about 25 below zero without any wind.
