My Scary Camping Trip

On a nice spring day in early June, 1986 or 1987. my family, along with John Moxie and his family, went on a camping trip by boat behind Pilcher Mtn.

In our boat there was me, my mom, Auntie Lena, Joseph, my dad, and my mom. In the Moxies' boat there was Olga, Mary and John.

When we got to our camping site we unloaded our stuff and set up our tents. When we were through, we went out on a ride to try to catch wild game for supper.

After we made our catch and ate we went to bed. The next morning we awoke bright and early to a very hot day. All day long we kids played, manaqed for pike, caught snails, and even swam a bit. Before the day was over we went out hunting beavers and muskrats, birds, and eggs. It was a long but fun-filled day.

After supper we cleaned up the camp a bit, played with our snails and went to bed. The next day started off pretty much the same as the day before except it was a little cooler.

As the day wore on, dark clouds started rolling in and we knew it was going to rain. So we started preparing for it. When we finished we sat in our tents watching and waiting for the rain to start. But nothing happened. At first we thought the rain clouds had passed us by, but then it started thundering. When we heard the rumbling noise Olga, Joseph, and I stopped what we were doing and listened and watched the sky across the camp.

The sky was very dark gray and all of a sudden, a stroke of lightning flashed across the sky. Then it thundered very loudly again and again. When it kept on thundering and lightning Olga got scared and wanted to go home. Then it started to rain really hard, as if it would never stop.

Finally, after the rains, thunder, and lightning passed and we kids got settled down a bit, we all went on a boat ride to check out the country. It smelled really fresh and glittered brightly in the sun.

The next day we packed up and got ready to go home because we thought it would rain again. All in all, the trip was a lot of fun and very exciting for us kids. But it was too wet for us to stay any longer, and we headed home.
