Recycling Trash:Recycling
Trash
One day when my family and I went out for a boat ride we noticed a lot of trash along the Side of the slough that we were in. After we saw the trash we went on ahead and had a little picnic and also rod and reeled for a while. When we were done we went back out the slough the same way we'd come in. On our way out my dad stopped the engine and asked us if we wanted to pick up some of the trash and take it back home to throw in the dump. We all agreed, and after we parked our boat my mom took out a plastic bag and we all put on gloves so that we wouldn't get cut or dirty. After picking up the trash and storing it in the boat, we returned to Marshall. Before throwing the trash in the dump we checked to see if we could find any evidence of who had thrown it in the river. Sure enough, we found an old letter which belonged to Moses Duny. After taking out all of the pop cans, we smashed them and then put them in a bag. Then I took out all the plastic items and put them into a separate bag. When I was done with the plastic items, I put all of the papers together in a big box. Then I went over to talk to Moses about the trash that he threw in the river. I told him that it would be better for him to try to recycle all recyclable items before throwing his trash away. Anyway, he should never throw anything in the river, I told him, because it pollutes the water that people drink downriver. When I was walking home I saw a lot of trash on the sides of the road and it made me think of how embarrassing it would be for out-of-towners to see all that trash. So I thought of starting up a recycling program. Before I did this, though, I had my parents and my brother and sister help me set it up. After that I got some help from Moses and the program was ready to go. I think that it would be a good idea for people to start recycling the things that could be recycled. That way we would have less trash in and around our community. By: Mary Jane Shorty
