Two Ravens Dancing on the Tundra - Student Encounters:
Two Ravens Dancing on the
Tundra
One day after walking up
from the beach to the tundra, my friend and I put our berry
buckets down and started picking berries. We had picked a long
time, and I noticed I had wandered away from all the other people.
Since my bucket was half full and I was getting tired because it
was kind of hot out, I sat down near the beach and slowly picked
berries.
I was looking straight across from
me when I saw two Ravens hopping around and picking at berries on
the tundra. While they were hopping around they made croaking
noises and continued picking at the berries with their
beak.
I watched them for a long, time and my bucket wasn't getting very
full because I wasn't paying any attention to the berries. I just
sat on the tundra and enjoyed the cool breeze as I watched the
Ravens. When I heard them call I stood up to watch them chasing
each other in the air. As they were coming my way, I stood still,
and when they passed me Iscared them and they flew back to where
they were.
When we were getting ready to
leave for home, they watched us get in the boat. When we left, I
saw one of them sitting on a high tree in its nest. Maybe she had
been waiting for us to leave.
