Marshall Lands

As a result of the ANCSA, the Maserculiq Corporation received 115,200 acresof land from the U.S. Government. However, they have clear written title to only 101,966 acres. This land extends from Kwik to the mouth of Polte's Slough, on the north side of the Yukon River. Most of the corporation land was surveyed by R & M consultants which is a private land survey company in Anchorage. However, the BLM is resurveying the land because the corporation had originally received land that included a lot of water. The Bureau of Land Management will soon exchange this submerged land for land that is above water.

People who have shares in the corporation do not own corporation land. They only own an interest in the land. And non- shareholders can't buy corporation land because the shareholders decided not to sell land to them until further notice. You have to be a shareholder of Mas. Inc. to own land. That is the only qualification until they have another meeting to discuss this.

The owners of land allotments have a title saying that they own their land. Land allotments are different from corporation land because lots were conveyed to the people before 1971 under the Land Allotment Act. About 30 people have land allotments here in Marshall.

Many people in Marshall own the land that their houses are on. But since the housing authority started building houses here the people cannot own the land that the houses are on until after they pay off their houses fully.

As for the value of corporation land, there is no dollar per acre value yet. And neither the corporation nor the land owner pays taxes on their land.
