Energy:Energy
In the summer the people of Marshall use less energy, and in the winter they use a lot more. The AVEC energy plant uses about 90,000 gallons of oil per year. The school's electricity accounts for about half of that amount. Individual homes use an average of 45 gallons of heating oil per month. The school uses about that much in one day. In the year 2000 people will probably be using some solar and wind energy as their "fuel." AVEC may be doing the same. By then people will hardly use oil stoves because the price of oil will probably be too high. This is why people will have to start using solar and wind energy in the future. When the amount of oil left in the earth goes down the price goes up. Wood is the most plentiful and cheapest of fuel sources and will continue to be used for as long as trees float down the Yukon. People use about one big log, or half a cord, of wood a month. Even though people may have wind mills and use solar panels, I think they will always use wood for heating their homes.
