SOARING HIGH ABOVE
THE EARTH I FLY
LISTENING FOR THAT EARTHLY CRY
SO OFTEN HEARD FROM WEARY MOUTHS
OF THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN WORKING HARD
DO NOT TAKE ME WRONG,
I AM NOT HERE TO SPY,
I'M MERELY HERE TO URGE YOU ON
AND HELP YOU WHEN PRESSURE'S ON.
SOME MAY CALL ME THE GREAT
SPIRIT
AND SOME MAY CALL ME THE WHITE DOVE,
BUT I AM NOT A SPIRIT
AND I AM NOT A DOVE.
FOR I AM JUST A PLAIN WHITE
GULL
WITH EYES THAT SEE THROUGH STONE,
EARS THAT HEAR THE SMALLEST BUG,
AND A MIND THAT CAN BE HEARD
BY THOSE LISTENING FOR A COMFORTING WORD.
SEEMS LIKE ONLY YESTERDAY
I LEFT MY NESTING GROUNDS,
AND NOW I AM GETTING OLD
FOR TIME HAS PASSED ME BY.
THE WORLD HAS CHANGED,
LEAVING ME BEHIND.
FOR GIANT MECHANICAL MONSTERS
WITH BLINKING EYES, AND HUMUNGUS IRON TEETH
HAVE TAKEN MY PLACE,
AND TINY STONE PAIN KILLERS.
