The following poems were written by students in Hooper Say High School's advanced Language Arts class.

It was recognized early that the students here were orally well-spoken in both English and Yupik but that work needed to be done at the high school level to promote the written aspect of the Yupik language. So we thought a good start would be to write some poetry in Yupik as well as in English. These poems are the fruits of our work.

Thanks go to the Yupik Bilingual Aides around the Lower Yukon School District who helped us out for three days during their workshop here in Hooper Bay. And special thanks go to Dorothy Napoleon who proofread all of the poetry and made suggested corrections.
