Ruth Fitka

Community Health Practitioner

Ruth is one of our Community Health Practitioners here at the clinic, in other words she is a Health Aide. She is employed by YKHC over in Bethel, and her boss is Elena Nelson Rothschild. Ruth works eight hours a day, six days a week. She has breaks on Sundays only when she is not on call. Ruth expects to work for ten more years.

She spends most of her time indoors seeing her patients at the Marshall Clinic. Sometimes, if it is necessary, she will make home visits. Four of her job responsibilities are to treat patient needs, maintain confidentiality, provide patient education, and file patient charts. She works with the other health aides who are Nora Tikiun and Elizabeth Fitka.

The best thing about her job, she says, is working with people and helping them. The worst thing about her job is the stress involved in taking care of emergencies. Her advice to the younger generation is to do good in math and science.
