Clifford Fitka

Co-op store clerk

Clifford is a clerk and stock person at the Fortuna Ledge Co-op store. He has a G.E.D. and prior experience which he got from working in stores in Anchorage. He mainly works in the store or in the stockroom, stocking merchandise or organizing the stockroom. He gets paid $6.00 an hour and works eight hours a day, which is sort of average pay for a small town like this.

Clifford mainly works with Nick Boots, but his boss is Alex Nick, the manager of the Co-op. His four job responsibilities are to stock merchandise, operate the cash register, assist the maintenance man when groceries come in, and, most importantly, assist customers. Clifford says,"The worst things about my job are the lame pay and certain rude customers."

Clifford's advice to younger people is, "Go to college and get a real job so you don't end up a jobless bum who lives off his parents like so many other people in bush Alaska. Go out and be independent and set an example for your peers."
