Sense of Where You Are:
Sense of Where You Are
While running through a grove of trees, I
wondered what I would run into. Suddenly from a distance l spotted
another fox. He was looking down at Marshall, because that was his
home until the humans chased him away. He asked me my name. I
responded that I had none. He gently said, "Then may I have the
chance of naming you?" I said, "I don't really mind, go ahead."
The first thing that came out of his mouth was Snow. Then he said,
"Your skin is so light, it matches the light color of the snow
when the moon shines at night." So be it, I finally had a name, he
called me Snow(Haa haa). When I had the chance, I asked him what
his name was. He then smiled and responded, "My name is Tre', they
call me Tre'!" Then he took off into the moonlight, and I never
saw him again.
A week passed and I looked down at Marshall,
wondering what life in the fast lane was like. Every night lights
flashed from a distance. I mean, they really freaked me out. Like,
what were they? I alsowondered if Tre' was down there? I was very
curious. He was the last fox I really talked to. The others were
stubborn, and they didn't have much interest in anything at all.
And if I ever talked to any of them, they would ask if I'd seen
any fast food. Anything from mice to rabbits were fast food,
because they run away real fast. Now that's what I call fast
food.
When I finally decided to go check out
Marshall, it was a cold and windy night. I followed some others,
and they went straight to the dump. I think it's called the dump
because everyone dumps their trash there. The dump bored me so I
went to explore the town. I went over to the buildings on the
north side because they looked fairly new. Again there was no sign
of Tre'. I went downtown and It looked like there were a lot of
people living there. When I went further down I was on the frozen
waters of the Yukon River. I looked up and there was Marshall, the
lights all over the place, and a lot of things to look at. I
finally found out what the lights were. They were street lights,
snow machines, and all the lights in the houses. It all amazed me
how these people were living because it was so alien to me. But
they were not free like I was. I understand that they have laws
they have to follow.
As the days went by, I was longing to go home,
to be free wherever I may roam. The people here are not that nice.
They throw things at me, even though I mean no harm to them. I
guess they're just scared of me, of what they think I am, Rabid!
So crazy, they may need some psychological or mental help, or
someone to tell them the truth of what we really are.
Anyways, I am going home today, not only to be
free, but to check it (home) out!!
