How the Fox Got His Red Coat:How the Fox Got His Red
Coat
One bright, sunny day in winter, there was a fox named Fred sniffing around. He was all white with no signs of any other color. Whenever he went hunting for food he would always catch something, until one day he couldn't find his prey anymore. He walked for many days until he saw this duck. He ran after the duck to try and catch it, because he was very hungry. But when he caught the duck somehow it got away from him. When he ran after the duck the second time, it got away again. He was about to give up and look for other food to eat but the duck kept on bothering him. So Fred ran after it a final time until the duck ran into a pond and swam to the other side. When the duck was on the other side of the pond he teased the fox, and yelled, "you can't catch me," and started to laugh at the fox. The fox got so frustrated and embarrassed that his body got brilliant red. Then because he didn't like the color of red he rolled around on the ground. For this reason up to this day some of the foxes are a brownish red color. Then he thought to himself, "I'm too red." So he took some charcoal from a piece of wood and, with his mouth, he rubbed it on his arms, legs and ears. That is why up to this day there are some foxes with red and black fur on their bodies. | |
