A Day In The Life Of A Dog

Hi!! My name is Dusty. I'm 16 years old. I was born in the summer of 1976. I live on the lower end of town a little below Norma's house. I eat anything except potatoes. I sleep in my doghouse all by myself. The things I like to do are stay with my mother and sister, and my friend Silver, and go on long walks with my owner"s kids.I also like to roam around town, but I'm real careful of whose yards I go into, because some people don't like dogs around their yards.

The thing I don't like doing is dogsitting my younger sister, Whitey. I have to make sure she doesn't get into too much mischief and doesn't roam around for too long. I eat twice a day. My owner Moses sometimes forgets to feed us, so he lets one of his children do that. Sometimes, probably when he's feeling rich, he gives us enough food to last a day or two.

I go on long walks all by myself, If not with my mother or sister. Once in awhile my owner takes me out on long walks to the airport or the tundra. It's more exciting to go out on walks with my owner's kids because their more active. While I go on walks with the kids I run around and do a little hunting here and there.

During winter before the sled dog races begin my owner starts to train us for the big days. About twice a week we go out running for about three miles a day. It's fun in a way, but also very tiring. But I know I must go on, instead of letting my owner down. These races mean everything to him so I really do have to try my best.

After we get back from running I love to get loose and run around like crazy, but my owner doesn't let me be loose for a long time. He ties me back up after running around and getting into peoples' trash. It seems like all my life I have been tied up, but sometimes I get loose. Then my owner or his kids have to chase me around town and bring me back to tie me up again. I bark and growl like crazy, hoping that I could scare them away, but it never works.
