When I Clubbed A Moose

"We were coming back from spring camp at the end of May one year when I was only 11 or 12 years old. I left the tent to get some dry firewood for my aunty to cook dinner. I had a hatchet and I went about a hundred feet from camp to get the wood.

While I was chopping a small tree down with my hatchet it bumped into

something behind me. I thought that it was another tree.

When I swung the third time I felt warm air blowing on the back of my neck. When I looked around I saw two black holes. When the holes twitched I stepped back a couple of steps and saw that the two big holes were nostrils. I looked above the nostrils and saw two big eyes. They were crossed and it looked really funny. It was a moose, and I could tell it was a bull because when I looked above his eyes I could see a pair of little antlers. It looked like it was coming closer to smell me, so I took off. Later on my dog Nowlie chased the moose out of the woods and into the open by a lake, and there my uncle shot it."
