Crow Pass Moose:Crow Pass
Moose
"A friend and I were hiking on the Crow Pass Trail, the trail that goes from Girdwood to Eagle River. It was raining really hard and we were walking with our heads down. It was raining so hard that our rain gear was soaked all the way through. We were walking through an area with alders and tall grass and had just passed some boy scouts on the trail. Just as we had come through an alder thicket and were approaching some tall grass, we looked up to see a cow moose with a calf. I stopped right in my tracks and so did my hiking partner, but the cow moose just put her head back down and went on grazing. I tried talking softly to her to get her off the trail, but she didn't move an inch. Pretty soon the boy scouts came up behind us. They started making noises, and one of the kids started to bark like a dog. When he did that the moose's hair bristled on her back and she looked like she was going to charge us. We stood there for a couple of minutes trying to calm her down, then we started clicking rocks and sticks together. Finally the moose slowly moved off and went down the hill and we were able to continue walking along the trail."
