Close Enough to Hit Them with an Oar

Two days before moose hunting season was open this year, it was such a beautiful day that Victor Shorty, Rena, Allison, Mary Jane, Liz and I decided to take a boat ride behind the mountain to see all the wonderful things that nature had to offer. While we were traveling through the slough Victor shot at some geese and ducks. Sometimes he caught, but other times he missed. We drove until we finally got to where we wanted to go. Just after we got there, MJ said, "Look at them moose standing in the water!" We all got up to take a look see, but they were too far away. So Vic drove over closer toward them. We came so close to them that we could have hit them with an oar. But we just stood in the boat quietly watching every movement the moose made. Not too long afterwards they ran up onto the tundra and disappeared into the vast wilderness. By the time we got over the excitement it was already getting dark, and we decided to go home.
