Too Heavy

"The biggest fish I almost caught was during commercial fishing four or five years ago. My brother Willie and I were checking the net when we saw a big king dangling by its teeth. He reached for the gaff and gaffed the fish on the head, but the fish was so big and heavy it bent the gaff straight. The fish took off and disappeared into the depths of the water."

The Big Fish That Got Away

"In 1976,1 had a hard year because I was very busy helping my parents. During the fall that year my dad, Alvin, got into an accident and couldn't do much. But when the fishing season started he still had to fish to make a living because it was hard living in those days. Since he couldn't do things on his own, he told his two kids to help him fish. So Alvin Jr. and I helped our dad fish for the king season.

When we started to fish it was difficult because we had only so many hours to fish. While we were fishing we did all the work because our dad couldn't do the work.

While we were fishing we caught a huge King salmon. It took both Jr. and I to pull it in. But just as we were about to get it in, it fell out of the boat. It was about 60 pounds, and it was the biggest fish we'd ever caught."
