Kindergarten News

The Kindergarten students have been watching videos and learning about about Japanese children attending school. They have had a chance to see a doll fish windsock in our room, and I could tell that everyone seemed delighted with the Japanese theme kit.

The Africa theme kit was also well received by everyone. It was rich in children's stories and videos on African animals. The students really liked the stories about "Anansi the Spider" and "Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears."

We thank the Central Office Media Library for giving us the opportunity to enrich our learning with these kits.

Barb's 1st and 2nd Grades

We are working very hard adding three numbers and double digits in Math. In English, we are learning about writing letters, commas and apostrophes. In Reading, we are reading harder and harder words. In Language Arts, we are making books. We made an elephant book, a shoe book, a book about being the President of the United States, a book about the Magic School Bus, and all kinds of mini books. We are having fun writing stories. We wrote one about aliens visiting our town. Come and read our stories and look at our books.

Grades 3 and 4

There have been many absences in our classroom due to colds, the flu and cultural leave to attend local and area events.

In spite of the absences, the students completed one set of reading materials and all have moved up to the next harder set. The "Turtles" and "Armadillos" are all making excellent progress in reading.

All the 3rd and 4th graders are working diligently to master their multiplication tables through 12. A game called "Mad Minute" encourages faster answers as well as having fun.

Everyone has mastered D'Nealian cursive handwriting, which now must be used in all assignments. Recently, we have been practicing letter-writing skills and our pen pals will be very glad to receive our letters.

Basketball is still our favorite activity for physical exercise in the gym. The 4th graders were recently very excited to participate in their first basketball games at other villages.

In science, we have been observing the local weather patterns of late winter and early spring by graphing day to day changes.

During social studies class, our school counselor Vera discussed the topic of tobacco usage by children and the health issues surrounding it. She showed us colored pictures of the human mouth after using tobacco. Our students enjoy her visits ever month.

We wish all of you a Happy Spring Season!
