New Year's in a Volcano

I had a lot of fun this Christmas. Our younger daughter Kelly came home from the Navy for the vacation. Then our older daughter Kinde, her husband Conrad, and their two sons came over to our house in Anchorage for Christmas.

On December 29, Guy and I flew to Oahu, Hawaii. We swam at Waikiki Beach, shopped at the International Market Place, ate a lot of noodles, and celebrated New Year's Eve at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. We heard thousands of firecrackers explode on New Year's Eve. The smoke was so thick you could hardly see more than 100 feet. It was fun to celebrate New Year's Eve in the last time zone of the world.

Then on January 5, we flew to Kona, Hawaii, where we snorkeled with lots of colorful fish and four green sea turtles. We traveled all over the island while we were there. We visited several volcanoes and walked on lava fields and even spent some time inside a lava tunnel. It was really dark in there. We had a lot of fun going to the beach almost every day, enjoying all the s sights.
