New Friends in Scammon Bay

Larry and I went to Mtn. Village on the 21st of December, where we spent the night. Then we headed down to Scammon Bay on the 22nd for my brother Carl's wedding. My brothers Gen and Paul went along also. Father Gene Delmore officiated at the wedding. Paul was the best man and the bride's maid was Susie Tranthom. After the wedding, they had a reception and fiddling at the community hall.

On the 23rd we left Mtn. Village, but we turned back because we broke down between Scammon and Kusilvak Mtn. The chain on our snowmachine broke and we had to order a part while we were in Scammon Bay. So we had to spend Christmas there.

While we stayed at Scammon we got invited to a potluck dinner at the Covenant church. They had games and midnight mass service during that time. While we were there we watched the children's program at the church and really enjoyed it.

We also went jigging for tomcods and smelts, but I caught only one smelt. The people there were really nice, and even invited us over for dinner. I also visited with my St. Mary's classmates, Tony Ulak and Sabastian Kasayuli.

Finally, on New Year's day someone guided us half-way back to Mtn. Village. My brother-In-law met us half-way from Mtn. Village because we didn't know the trail.

When we got back to Mtn. Village we stayed there for a few days with my mom. We really enjoyed the trip to Scammon Bay because the people there were very nice.
