Richard Ellis
Village Police Officer

Richard Ellis was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1965. He grew up in Baltimore and went to high school at Dundalk Senior High. He then went to college where he did general studies for an Associate Arts degree. He didn't graduate from college because he joined the Army for five years at Fort Richardson, Anchorage. Before he got out of the Army he applied for his present job. He didn't even know what the job would entail. Two days before he got out of the Army he was hired and came straight to Marshall to start work.

Richard has been working here for six years now and he plans to work here for a while longer. He likes his job because there is something different about it all the time.

To be a V.P.S.O., you have to be at least twenty-one years of age. You have to be a high school graduate. You cannot have any misdemeanor convictions for the past five years. You also can't have any felony convictions at all. And you have to have good moral character.

He has been to several schools for training since he has become V.P.S.O., and has over 700 hours of training in police related subjects.

He likes his job. He says that every day there is a different challenge and that no two criminal investigations are alike. He says that the best thing about his job is knowing that he is making a difference in the community, and the worst is not knowing what is going to happen in regard to the types of emergencies he might have to respond to. He has a wife and two children, but feels that they do not affect his job performance.
