Annie Hunter
Kindergarten Teacher

Annie Hunter was born in Mt. Village in 1949. She grew up at Mt. Village and went to elementary school there. She attended high school at St. Mary's where she graduated in 1969. She went to four different colleges, K.C.C., Alaska Methodist University in Anchorage, UAF and Western Oregon State. She studied Primary Education and graduated in 1984.

Annie has been working here for four years but plans to take a break for a while before she retires. She likes her job because it can be challenging at times. She first became interested in teaching when she taught Head Start right after high school. If she hadn't become a teacher she would have become a dental assistant or practical nurse.

To be a teacher Annie had to take required classes and practicum training in the classroom in Anchorage, Fairbanks and also in Albany, Oregon. Since getting her job she has taken a year's leave in 1992 and studied graduate courses at UAF. Annie feels her job keeps her stimulated because she has to be creative all the time with kindergarteners. "You have to get things ready ahead of time, if you want to be successful, and you have to collect units and have ideas for activities," she says. The best thing about her job is to see the kids learn so fast. The worst thing is not getting enough supplies soon enough.
