This is a play based on the story about the two cranes as told by Agnes Aguchak to Mati1da Kasayuli.
Narrator: This is a story about these two cranes who were married and they lived near a river near Askinuk Mountain. They had al1 the food they could eat and were good and fat. But one day the male crane came home from hunting and found that his wife was throwing out all the things they had in their house including food and oil. Male: (surprised) CALIISIT? Female: (angry) USSVIQELLRRUQ! MAKUT EGGKANKA MULUUTAANERRTUTEN? Male: (stunned) CIIN QAANEQSAICIT? Female: TUA-IGWA MANI UITAI-YUUTUUTEN! KIIRAN PEGGAUMALUUTEN! Male: WII QENERCUUMIITUA! ATAAM ELLIIKIKI Female: WII QENERCIIMAQELLRUNUUNGA ERNERRPAK. Male: WIINGA ANGUSSUGTETTUUNGA CANEK NEQKANEK. Narrator: Her husband became very sad and sat near her and started to sing her a song asking why she was throwing out these things. CIQTAQ UNAI EGQAQIQARTA PAQRILKUMA CANIQAMI TARKAURLUQ KANAGIA, QAIYIRA KANAGIA, KANAGIA YAIYIRA. CIQTAQ UNAI EGQAQIQTARTA PAQRILKUMA KANGIRRAMI TARKAURLUQ KANANGIA, KANAGIA YAIYIRIA. Narrator: Then all of a sudden his wife stopped being mad. She started to pick up all those things and bring them back into the house. And from that time on his wife was never mad again. Whenever her husband caught any game she would put it all away and never throw any of it out. | |
