663 This spruce root basket was made by a Wrangell Thlinget Indian woman about 1925. Name of weaver unknown. Purchased from the Wrangell curio store 1947 by Mrs. L.C. Berg. The black of the design represents wild geese flying and is made of the stem of maidenhair fern. The center of the pattern is grass dyed with native dye and is waves of the sea. | |||||

This small flat bowl was made by a Thlingit Indian of either Hoonah or Angoon and may be spruce root. Its imperfection may indicate the weaver was a child or a beginner. Its dark roots indicate its age. It was found in Sitka by Lila Berg in 1961. | |
