Four staff members are saying, "Goodbye," to Marshall
School. They all have plans for the future and we wish them luck
in whatever they
do.
Time for a
Change
"I have spent a great deal of time trying
to figure out my plans for next year. I have lived and
worked in Marshall for six years, the longest I have ever
worked in any one place. I felt that I needed to make a
change and that this was the year to do it, so I resigned
from the Lower Yukon School District and accepted a position
with Northwest Arctic Borough Schools. I will be going to
the village of Buckland which is near Kotzebue Sound. In
Buckland I will be the special education teacher for grades
seven through twelve. I am very excited about my new
position, but will miss the staff and students of Marshall
very much."

Come
"After teaching in Marshall for a couple
of years, I have decided to return to school to further my
education. In the Fall, I am going to attend Sacred Heart
University in Fairfield, Connecticut to pursue my Master of
Science in Information Technology. I chose to go to SHU
because it is a Catholic school, and it has a great
technology program. I have always been interested in
computers and technology so I have set my mind to go for
what I want. As for plans after that, they are not set in
stone, but I eventually plan to get my doctorate on the west
coast, most likely at the U. of Washington in
Seattle."

Life After
Death
"There is indeed life after
death.
Among my many plans are to do a canoe
trip in June down the Noatak River in the Brooks Range, plus
a hike with Jennifer in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
in July. Then I'll start building a maqi with Steven, then a
studio-garage, and finally a little cabin on my land next to
Denali National Park. As usual, I will continue writing my
books and carving my little animals, and gardening with Jen.
I'll involve myself more directly in the local environmental
and birding groups I belong to in Fairbanks, and in the Fall
I'll take some courses at the University of Alaska, and
learn how to dog mush with a friend in Eagle. I'll visit my
mother when she's in Arizona in the Spring, travel to
Australia with Jen the following summer, then, the following
year, revisit friends in South America. Every summer I plan
to float at least one more wilderness river in Alaska with
friends or family members.
It will truly be a pleasure to get up in
the morning."

Vacation!
"I have been in education 25 years and my
biggest goal is to retire in three years and go home and
actually live with my wife. I have loved the time I have
spent in Alaska, and have met people I will never forget. My
future looks very good to me.
My plans for the summer include building
a rock garden for my wife, then seeing my daughter get
married in June. She is an Army helicopter pilot and she is
marrying another pilot. They are both in advanced flight
training and will live at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, while they
continue training. Hopefully, after the wedding, my wife and
I can take a vacation."
