Death Becomes Thee
My name is Terri, and I am a turkey. I live
with my friends, Fred, Corey, Troy, June, Curtis, Tillie, and
Earlene here in the barn. Oh, I forgot, we live in a small barn
with a big hole in the ceiling, so when it rains everyone bunches
up in the corner. I think that is "sorta" funny.
Today June got burned and all her feathers were
complety burned off. She was real stinky, an everyone freaked out.
Then she got stubborn. Fred jumped the fence; he got lost in the
back yard. All of sudden we heard a deep turkey cry. It was Fred;
the family dog, Ungabunga, was chasing him around and trying to
eat him. He came back with a bald spot on his back.
A days go by, I think what will become of us. I
wonder what evey happened to Alex and Shirley last year? Maybe
they became a Thanksgiving dinner. I hope we don't become a
Thanksgiving dinner on a big plate. That would be so
rude.
One rainy day in November, our rightful owner
took us all into the shed with a couple of other men. They
actually chopped off our heads with a big knife that looked like
it was 40 feet long. I felt so brainless, I couldn't think of
anything for awhile.
Anyways they brought us to a poultry shop and
sold us for 10 dollars each. Then we were cut up and some of our
parts were made into dog food. Well, anyways, I am so glad that
all of us are together.
We were thenstored in a very dark and cold
place. It's almost like how the Alaskans would feel in Alaska. We
were in a freezer. Suddenly a ray of light beamed through the door
and the hand of an old woman looked at us and took Earlene and
June. I wanted to go out too because I was freezing my butt
off.
Finally, it was Thanksgiving day, and they gave
us away to the homeless shelter. We were put in a thing that
looked like a gas chamber like the one on T.V. But first they
stuffed us with all kinds of things, I felt so uncomfortable. And
it was so hot, like the Arizona Desert that I saw on T.V. I was so
hot that I blacked out.
I woke up on a very big table. They got my leg,
and that old guy with no teeth is eating my leg! That woman took
my neck and my back. Oh my god, not the wishbone! I' will die if
someone gets it. But they fought over my wishbone and broke it.
Then something like a vacuum sucked my soul up into the sky. I
think l am in heaven…
