Barb Travels with Guy

Barb spent most of her summer traveling with her husband Guy. She went down to California to be with Guy while their plane was being fixed. They also went to Phoenix to pick up her father, and then they flew up to San Diego to visit with her brother and his family. So it was kind of a small family reunion.

After returning home to Anchorage she and Guy made a whole bunch of little trips all over Alaska. She visited her two daughters and grandchildren and she went bike riding with Guy while they were in Anchorage. She and Guy also went out dining together there, and saw some great movies at the theater.

Barb says she is glad to be working here in Marshall.

Guy Sandlin's Summer

Guy spent most of his summer in the back country of California, Nevada and Alaska. He took his airplane to Nevada for some repairs. While he was there, he did some solo backpacking in the Sierras. He expected to stay only one week but it turned out that he spent three weeks. Barb and Kelly joined him and traveled to Phoenix to be with his family. After he returned to Alaska he went to the Brooks Range for a week of backpacking. There he experienced some of the most beautiful and unspoiled wilderness that exists on the Earth.

He also went on several hikes around Anchorage, including the Crow Creek Trail and the Flat Top Trail. He also went on a mountain bike trip in the Anchorage area and experienced the increased mobility that mode of conveyance provides. It was an active and rewarding summer in a lot of ways.

His future plans include a lot of the same activities he engaged in this summer. Guy wants to spend more time in wilderness areas. He would also like to experience the fine things that Marshall has to offer both from a human and natural perspective.

Barb and Guy plan to teach for a few more years, but following their retirement he would like to go back to school and work on an advanced degree in genetics. Perhaps a job in Cancer research would follow the degree.

Both are very impressed with Marshall and are looking forward to their stay.
