Our New V.P.S.O.
One day many years ago I was told
that we were going to have new V.P.S.O. and that he was a colored
guy. After I told some of my friends and other people about our new
V.P.S.O., we were all wondering how he would be as a cop. We were so
curious that we had the guts to go and ask our mayor about him. But
our mayor didn't give us a lot of answers even though we asked lots
of questions.
Not long after asking our mayor about
the new V.P.S.O., we went to play basketball by the school. While we
were playing ball, we saw the airline agent, Isaac Fisher, heading to
the airport to get his passengers. Then my friend Rebecca said, "I
wonder if the new V.P.S.O. is coming in yet?" No one knew for sure
but Josh told us to wait for awhile and see when Isaac gets back from
the airport.
We continued to play basketball and I
wondered to myself if we were going to have a good V.P.S.O. or not?
But then Adam saw Isaac returning with the black cop and his family.
He yelled, "Hey, look, who's that? I wonderif he's the new V.P.S.O. He's
also got two kids and a wife with him."
After a while we walked down the road
to check on where the new cop was going to be staying. At his
residence we went over to him and started talking to him and his
family. We asked them a lot of questions about what they were going
to do here, then we left.
Not long after they moved in,
teenagers and younger kids started to tease and bother the V.P.S.O.'s
two kids. They did this because they were different from the Natives
here. They didn't like them because of their dark skin, and during
activities the Native kids would tell them that they were no good at
anything because they were black. Ever since then a lot of peoplehavebeen against
blacks.
