Some Time In The Future

It was the year 2097 and the earth was hot because of global warming. All over the world the temperature had risen ten degrees higher than normal. I was working as an animal observer and my job was to assist Willie and Qun observing marine mammals to see how they were affected by the harmful rays of the sun. When I went to look for Willie and Qun down at the coast, which was now right in front of Marshall, I saw a lot of sea animals like seals, walrus, whales, etc. The sea level had risen so much because the ice in Antarctica and the Arctic had melted. I was also wearing a specially made suit so that I wouldn't die from over exposure to UVB rays from the sun. When I reached Willie and Qun they were observing a whale migrating north. We were using vehicles that were designed for the conditions that we were in and they were really efficient because they operated on sun power. They were also faster than the internal combustion engines we used to use like snowmachines and trucks. When we went to look for some other creatures we saw Golova and Slim chasing after some robbers on the water. For a while they were catching up then all of a sudden Slim's XT 2100 lost power and he crashed. When he hit the water there was a big splash because he was so big. Golova went back to pick him up but it was too late. Slim's back end was bottoming out. We were all freaking out at them because they looked really funny in a serious sort of way.

After they left we went back to observing whales and seals. We took a while to figure out one creature we were seeing because it was one we'd never seen before around here. It turned out to be a Hawaiin sea cow, an animal only found in warm water until recently.

While we were going back to town Willie's M3 land vehicle wasn't working right. We stopped to look at the engine, but when we tried starting it, it wouldn't start. So Willie kicked it. He kicked it again but missed, and he slipped and tore his suit wide open. He had to take it off to fix it, but as soon as he did this the sun's rays hit him and his skin started to burn terribly because of the harmful rays of the sun. Then he fell to the ground. We were careful transporting him back to the lab because his body was very fragile. At the lab the scientists examined him and were able to apply first aid just in time.

After that incident we started to be more careful about the way we treated our vehicles and ourselves. We also tried to find better ways to observe the creatures that lived on our planet. We needed to find how to keep them alive because we needed some other source of food besides the fruits and vegetables we were planting in our underground communities. These were just not enough for our village to stay alive. If we had only listened to the warnings about the environment, we wouldn't be in this predicament now!
