Two Moose to
Pack
"One year Frank Amouak and I went
upriver to hunt for moose in a meadow across from Tuqliq. We were
looking around when we noticed that a tree was shaking really hard.
We soon realized that it was a bull moose. It was far away, so I
aimed my 30-06 high at the top of the moose's back. Because the
distance was approximately 325 yards, the bullet fell as it traveled
and hit the moose in the knees. After we shot at it again and killed
it, we butchered it and packed it down to the boat. We had to make
five trips down to the boat. When we finally were finished, we came
home.
Another time some other people and I
caught a moose up at 12 Mile Slough. As we were carrying the moose
meat to the boat, another bull moose started to attack us. Luckily we
were on our last trip down to the boat. The moose was so close we
could see the steam it was blowing out of its nose. We shot it when
it was only about 10 feet away from us. Now we had another moose to
pack down to the boat!"
