Mary Jane's Encounter with a
Raven
"As I was walking around up and down
the main street of Marshall, I spotted a raven. While it was still up
in the air I started calling the raven. "Car-car,'' I called, and as
I did, the raven came nearer and nearer to me. Then finally it
landed, and I asked him if he would like to go for a walk with me.
Then slowly we started walking together.
While we were walking along I saw a
baby duck and I asked the raven to go after it and catch it. The
raven tried, but he didn't catch the duck. He was upset for a while,
so I cheered him up. Later during the walk I saw a mouse in the
middle of the road. Raven spotted it too and he went chasing after
it. Even though he was real hungry, again he didn't catch it. Then
poor raven started crying. And again I comforted him. I told him that
if he was that hungry I would find him some food. He agreed, and he
followed me out to the tundra. There on the tundra he found the food
he needed to stay alive. And it wasn't moving and running away from
him either. For there in front of him were thousands of blueberries.
He was so happy he cried, and again I comforted him. Then as he
started to eat the berries, I waved goodbye to him and told him we
would walk together again sometime."
