Katemal Shorty's
Summer Vacation
Katemal started his
summer very busy. Even after school was out in the Spring, lie worked
at the school most of the time. He started off by painting most of
the buildings around the school. First he painted the school workshop
near the school. After he was done painting the workshop, he started
on the student shop and then the art room. After he painted those
buildings, he took a break jn June and July to go
fishing.
Katemal was commercial
fishing through June and part of July. "But I didn't make good enough
money this year," he said). He also brought his family out berry
picking near Wilson Creek and boat riding to check his old fishcamp
and Coopers' camp. One day while the weather was good he went across
Marshall with his family and had a beach party and did some swimming
at the sandbar. Once he traveled downriver to St. Mary's to shop, and
while going back to Marshall, he stopped
by Pilot Station and visited friends.
Before school began,
Katemal went back to work at the Marshall high school. He painted
Mike Stockburger's room, the first and second grade rooms, and the
new teacher's room. Then he waxed the gym floor and the bathrooms.
His summer was okay for him, he said.
