Working for S.Y.E.T.P.

Part of the summer I worked for the Summer Youth Educational Training Program (S.Y.E.T.P.) sponsored by AVCP. I started working on the 25th of July and quit on the 12th of August. It was the first time working for the S.YE.T.P. and it was fun.

The first day my mom had to know where we were going to work and I had to sign some papers. Before my mom went out I asked her what I would do. She called Ann Fitka who told her that I had to answer phone calls and take messages all morning until 1 2 o'clock, lunch time. At 1 o'clock, when Ann Fitka came in, I had to file papers. After I was done filing papers, I had to do the bingo winnings and pull-tag winnings. That was a lot of fun because I saw the people's winnings in bingo and the pull-tab (rippies) winnings. After I was done I had to go out to the hall and help Janice Kameroff throw away unimportant papers. At 4 o'clock I asked Ann if I could go to the Co-op Store and she said yes. When I got up to the store I had to dust the shelves until 6 o'clock when I got off work.

On Tuesday, the next day, when I went to work again, Ann was there and I had to do typing. While I was typing I kept on making mistakes and I had to retype the paper over and over a lot of times because I wasn't used to typewriters. Finally when I was done it looked better than the other papers. A while later I had to file some more papers, which I finished just before lunch time. When lunch was over I had to do the bingo winnings again. While I was doing the bingo papers Ann asked me if I wanted to do more typing. After I was done I went to Ann's office and she gave me a paper I had to retype. This time I made hardly any mistakes. After I was done I had to type an address over and over to Juneau. Boy I was tired of typing by then! Finally it was time for me to go to the Co-op Store. All I did was dust the shelves there.

For 3 weeks in the city office I did the same thing over. At the Coop Store I dusted the shelves for a week, then stocked for a week, and the last week I worked in the office doing depositing and other stuff. Iearned a lot doing these jobs and look forward to next summer when I can do them again.
