Wrong Way to
Cuilnguq
On July 21, Mary, Fedusia, Roberta,
Michael, Jackie, Jeremy, Jordan, Lois, Sophie Ann and I went
to Cuilnguq for one night. We packed the things that we
needed, got gas and a hose from Jackie's boat and rode by
boat to Cuilnguq. The ride was very long because we got lost
for about four hours!
We had taken the Pilot Station slough
by mistake. I was wondering why we were headed to Pilot
Station instead of Cuilnguq. We finally stopped above Pilot
Station for awhile and Lois, Roberta, Jackie, and Michael
started rod and reeling. Then we got ready and left for
Cuilnguq.
While heading to Cuilnguq, Lois,
Sophie Ann, and I were getting bored and we started to
listen to music and talk about any old thing. Then Sophie
Ann said that she had a headache from laughing too much, and
I said, "I'll show you how to cure it.". So I rubbed my
hands together and started to massage Sophie Ann's head
until she started laughing even more and made Roberta, Mary,
and Fedusia wonder what Kathy was doing to her.

After ten minutes passed, we saw a bull moose on land
across from us. Then five minutes later it started to rain. Lois took
Roberta's raincoat and put it over our heads and we listened to music
until we finally reached Cuilnguq. It took us eight hours to get to
Cuilnguq.
After arriving there, we looked around for a camping
spot. When we found one it was on a damp spot and we had to cut some
branches down for the tent. After we put the tent up, we ate and went
to look for berries on the tundra. After we picked berries, we went
back to our camp where the weather got a little rough that night.
The next day we got up and went
looking for more berries. After we picked some berries, we
went back and ate. Then Lois, Jackie and I went fishing with
our rods and reels. Jackie caught one pike and before we
left one of the old women cooked it. In the late afternoon
we started to head home. While we were heading home,
Roberta,
Jeremy and I sat in front of the boat. When we were half way
out to Takchak, I told Jeremy that there was a little bug on
his cheek, and he took his jacket off and started to move
around real fast. He killed the little bug and it fell
inside his shirt. All of us in the boat were laughing at him
because he looked so funny the way he got so scared of that
little bug. When we reached the mouth of Takchak, we thought
we had run out of gas, so above the bluffs we slowed down
then went fast again.
The trip to Cuilnguq was a lot of fun,
but long, thanks to our wrong turn on the slough!
