Simeon's Steaming
Summer
Simeon Sergie is 63, and he says that
he had a great summer.
His summer started off with
commercial fishing. For the past two or three years he had a hard
time finding somebody to help him fish, but this year my brother
helped him. Before they went fishing they went to the store to buy
some "grub." They also made some coffee so they could have some
caffeine in them to keep them awake when they fished during the long
hours.
This year my dad didn't do very well
fishing but he made enough money to buy us some new furniture for our
house.
One of the things my dad would do
almost everyday after working hard was take a steam. He would also
invite his buddie's so he wouldn't be lonesome while taking a
steam.
Another thing he did was travel to
St. Mary's for shopping. He went down with my brother Vassily and his
wife for almost a day and then came back in the evening with a bunch
of stuff. He also traveled to other villages probably to get away
from us for a while. But once he went over to Kwethluk to check on my
auntie Olinka Nicholia because she was very sick and needed someone
to stay with her. My dad and my cousins finally found an old folks
home in Anchorage for her so they wouldn't have to worry too much
about her anymore.
My dad says that his summer went by
very fast because he kept so busy.
