Sivunniigvik, literally translated means the planning place. The children of the NANA region have come to know Camp Sivu as the place they gather in the summer to learn more about their culture, themselves, and their communities. The summer programs of Sivunniigvik are one facet of a multi-faceted Inupiat Ilitqusiat PROGRAM in the NANA region to instill in the minds and character of our youth our traditional Inupiaq Values. These values are universal and, when learned, can instill in each individual self-confidence and self-respect as well as respect for others, animal life, and nature.

Spirit Camp: Camp Water is a free three-and-a-half week summer camp where students use math, science, and traditional Native Ways of Knowing in the outdoors. Students spend about 10 days in Juneau, one week canoeing in the wilderness, and one week at the Chilkoot Culture Camp in Haines. The camp is for all middle school students, but its organizers are particularly interested in attracting Alaska Native youth. The camp is sponsored by the Juneau School District, with funding from the U.S. Department of Education, and in cooperation with LKoot Kwaan-Chilkoot Culture Camp. The camp is a great opportunity for youth in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade, but these youth might need encouragement from an adult in order to apply.
