Cook Inlet Tribal Council Youth Services:Organization Type: Regional Native Non-Profit Category: Leadership Development 504 West 25th Street Anchorage, AK 99503 Youth programs are combined through Public Law 477, a program which allows employment and training program funds to be consolidated. Components include the Johnson/O'Malley (JOM) Program, the Summer Youth Employment Program, Before and After School Program and the In-School Youth Program. Activities focus on providing opportunities for at-risk youth to gain work skills, pre-employment training, in-school tutoring through the JOM Study Skills classes and in-school work programs. The Summer Youth Employment Program provides on-site work experience for nearly 100 youth, ages 14-21. Other Youth Services programs include in-school services, summer school programs and academic counseling for Alaska Native students. Box 800 Craig, AK 99921 The S.E.A.L.S. program is our districts Indian Education program. We have named our program S.E.A.L.S. which stands for South East Alaska Lifestyle Studies. In S.E.A.L.S. we learn about the local arts and traditions of the native groups in our area. (Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian) We use the information passed down from our elders and their stories to develop our lessons. Some of the activities we are currently working on are: fall harvest, moccasin making, beading, regalia, lineage (crest, moiety), north west coast design and Tlingit language. All of these activities have been used and practiced by our native people for centuries and continue to be used and practiced today.
