The Education and Training program provides financial aid for eligible participants to attend training to upgrade their skills and obtain full-time employment; or, who have arranged employment, but do not have the funds to relocate (travel) and/or to become established (rent, food, etc.). The scholarship may be used towards tuition, books, fees, training or work materials, travel and/or subsistence, depending on availability of funding. A journalist originally from Nebraska, she served as publisher and president of the Tundra Times from 1986 until 1991. She edited A Reference in Time, Alaska Native History Day by Day, and with CIRI shareholder Hallie L. Bissett she co-authored the Native directory Na'eda, Our Friends. She was the recipient of the Alaska Federation of Natives' Denali Award in 2001, given annually to a non-Native for service to the Native community.
