The Foundation shall use traditional culture, in all its facets, as the primary means to enhance the education, life skills, pride, and self-esteem of the Ahtna people. The past shall be used as a bridge to help the Ahtan people move from their traditional lifestyle to a socio-economic position of self sufficiency in the current and future Alaskan society, while at the same time retaining the positive aspects of the Ahtna history and culture. The Ahtna Heritage Foundation Scholarship Program is a supplemental educational program designed to assist individuals of the Ahtna Athabascan tribe who wish to obtain an education to increase their career potential. To qualify for the Ahtna Heritage Foundation Scholarship an applicant must be an enrolled shareholder, in a shareholder's immediate family, a direct descendant or an heir of Ahtna stock. The applicant must also enroll full-time in an accredited institute for a minimum of six weeks for 30 clock hours per week or 12 or more credits.
