The Alaska Job Corps Center provides training to 250 students in a residential campus setting. The center is located on a 20-acre campus near downtown Palmer.? Our campus has dormitories for males and females.? There are usually four students per room.? Counselors and residential advisors are available 24 hours a day to provide support.? Each dorm has a lounge with a TV and pay phone for student use.

ANCET is made up of 16 regional, non-profit Native organizations that operate employment and training programs. These are programs authorized under a variety of laws (including, for instance, the Job Training Partnership Act). The programs are funded by several federal agencies?including the departments of Health and Social Services and Labor and the Bureau of Indian Affairs?as well as the state government. ANCET operates employment and training programs in both urban and rural areas.

AVTEC is Alaska's oldest and largest institute for skills training in a wide variety of industrial and technological fields (business, office, and computer technology, information technology, automotive, diesel, welding, and heavy equipment mechanics, maritime and fisheries, power plant and facility maintenance, heating, ventilation, air conditioning/refrigeration (HVAC/R), culinary arts and commercial baking, emergency medical services, and learning resources). AVTEC is a division of the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development and is approved by the Alaska Commission on Post Secondary Education.

As part of the 477 Employment, Training, and Related Services Program, this program focuses on funding eligible individuals to receive vocational training and other services in order to upgrade their skills and obtain gainful employment. The Education and Training program provides financial aid for eligible participants to attend training to upgrade their skills and obtain full-time employment; or, who have arranged employment, but do not have the funds to relocate (travel) and/or to become established (rent, food, etc.). The scholarship may be used towards tuition, books, fees, training or work materials, travel and/or subsistence, depending on availability of funding.

Job seekers from all of the CIRI non-profits can send participants to the CDC for job seeking and retention and adult basic education. The CDC is able to provide services with the assistance of Nine Star Enterprises via Americorps volunteers. The CDC provides the following services: a culturally appropriate, computer-based adult basic education skills program; Alaska Career Information System; GED preparation; resume and cover letter development/storage; basic computer training; career guidance; GED testing; life skills classes; and job club activities.

The Employment and Training Division works with tribally enrolled American Indians and/or Alaska Natives that have their High School Diploma or GED, are residing within the Service Delivery Area of Southeast Alaska, and are Job Ready. Adult Basic Education (ABE) - Allows tribal members assistance while obtaining their GED through the Southeast Regional Resource Center. Adult Vocational Training or Classroom Training (AVT and CRT) - Allows tribal members up to 24 months of training in a?vocational field of study and provides financial assistance while in training.? Also provides financial assistance to tribal members interested in attending short-term Classroom Training courses that will enhance a tribal member's ability to obtain employment?or advance in their career.?
