Learning the Tlingit Language—It’s Elementary With Linda Belarde, Jessica Chester, Nancy Douglas, Jennifer Scott, Alice Taff. For the last two years a small tribe of Juneau-Douglas school district staff, SHI staff, and linguists collaborated on a Tlingit Language Scope and Sequence. The group has completed levels 1-3 of the proposed 4-part sequence. Presenters will share how the document was developed and field tested in elementary classrooms at Harborview and Gastineau Schools. They will also share how language acquisition is currently being assessed. Participants will receive ideas and resources for implementing similar language instruction in their schools.
