The Eagle
There
once was an eagle that was flying over the Kilbuck Mountains. When he
saw an old shack he landed on the roof. When he looked over the edge,
he saw a hole on the right side of the shack. The eagle flew to the
ground and went in the hole. After he went in he explored the house
and found a big box and a pile of old clothes.
The eagle flew up on the clothes and made a nest. When he was done he
waited for a while until he got hungry. Then he jumped out of the
hole and started to fly around the mountain which was covered with
dead trees. He flew down close to the trees and saw a ptarmigan's
head. He caught the bird by the head and then brought it to the shack
where he ate most of it and put the rest behind the box. A few hours
later he got hungry again and ate the rest of the ptarmigan. Since he
was still hungry he flew out and caught a rabbit.
While he was eating the rabbit a fox tried to
steal the rabbit away from him .But the eagle turned around and bit its ear
and the fox ran away yelping. Then the eagle grabbed the rest of the
rabbit and brought it into the shack and hid it like he hid the
ptarmigan.
The next day it was really stormy on the mountain
and the eagle was stuck in the shack because the door way was blocked
by snow. When he saw the snow though he started to scratch his way
out. By noon time he was hungry, and when he remembered the rest of
the rabbit meat he ate it.
By about 4:30 he finally was out. Then he flew to
the top of the shack where he found some rotten wood on the side of
the building. He started scratching on it until he made a hole in the
shack. Now if he ever got buried again he could just fly up to the
hole and escape through it.
